SYDNEY – Strict laws proposed by Australia to combat fake news, which include massive fines on firms that fail to stamp out misinformation, have been met with a backlash over concerns that this would trigger a wave of censorship.
The legislation is due to be presented in Parliament later this year as the government’s concerns mount over misinformation campaigns on social media.
