His Excellency said: Our people do not know despair, and despite all the challenges they face, they continue to maintain their presence on the land of their state, which will be liberated from occupation with their solid will, and they also preserve their history, identity and national memory wherever they are. He added: Despite the catastrophe that befell our people due to the war of extermination and starvation in the Gaza Strip, we renew our determination to rebuild and build, and we will also rebuild what the occupation destroyed in the camps, villages and cities of the West Bank. Below is the text of Mr. President’s speech: “God will raise those who have believed among you and those who have been given knowledge to degrees, and God is Aware of what you do.” Dear God Almighty, brothers, the Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors of the Arab American University, brothers in the presidency of the university and members of the faculty, my sons, the female students. Dear students, honorable audience, may God’s peace, mercy, and blessings be upon you. I feel extremely happy, proud, and proud to be among you today within the confines of the Arab American University, this distinguished educational and academic edifice, which has contributed and continues to contribute to making Palestine a beacon of science and knowledge, and provides our female and male students with opportunities for academic achievement in various fields, especially in the field of modern sciences. I also extend my sincere thanks to this young, emerging university for its decision to grant me an honorary doctorate in the humanities, which I consider to be a dear medal that we place together on the chest of our patient and steadfast Palestinian people, this people who have made Palestine science, knowledge, and creativity another facet of Palestine, the free and democratic state. Ladies and gentlemen, education is our best weapon, a secret of our steadfastness, and a source of our national awareness. The educated Palestinian person is our true wealth. We are proud that Palestine today is almost a country without illiteracy, as its illiteracy rates are among the lowest in the world. Despite the dire circumstances that our people are experiencing, we are witnessing a tangible scientific renaissance. In Palestine, today, there are fifty universities and intermediate institutes, more than three thousand schools, and one million seven hundred thousand male and female students in our universities and schools. The percentage of those holding a university degree or higher is more than 20% of the total population, which is a high percentage compared to other countries. What makes us proud is that the percentage of female students in higher education is 62% of the total number of students, and the education sector also leads other sectors in terms of women’s participation, as they constitute about 60% of the total number of workers in it. We are all confident that Palestinian universities will keep pace with the progress of science and knowledge, and that their role will not be limited to transferring that knowledge, but rather developing it by allocating budgets for scientific and academic research, and establishing partnerships with the private sector and the state to contribute to the development of knowledge and possessing the cornerstone of technology that has become the measure of the development of peoples and countries. Here, we must review the academic specializations offered by our universities in line with the technological and scientific development in the world. Honorable presence, with knowledge we stand, with knowledge we rise, and with knowledge we build the nation. Despite the Nakba, we left the tents in pursuit of knowledge, and we now have teachers, lawyers, doctors, and engineers. We continued the march with determination and steadfastness, and we built our society and entity on solid scientific foundations, so that the State of Palestine today has become a fully-fledged state, even though it is still under occupation. Our children are spread today in various universities and institutes around the world, studying and teaching, including scientists, researchers, experts and specialists. These are the cultural symbol of our people among the peoples of the world. We must remember that young people the same age as our students or a little older carried out the greatest revolution in the history of the Palestinian people, which is the contemporary Palestinian revolution that began in 1965. Our enemies have worked to distort our history and our narrative, and therefore, I ask you at this university, and in all universities and Palestinian research and study centers, to begin without delay to complete writing the history of your country, Palestine, and its people, which have been subjected to distortion and falsification by the colonial and Zionist circles, and to publish And generalize this history. It is time for the Palestinian people to write their complete history themselves, present their true and authentic narrative, and refute once and for all those false and fake narratives that deliberately distort the truth, image and history of the Palestinian people. Ladies and gentlemen, our welcome of President Trump’s efforts and plan, and Security Council Resolution (2803), as well as the efforts of the international coalition to implement the two-state solution and the New York Declaration, is consistent with our conviction of the urgent need for effective international intervention that puts an end to these crimes, ensures the implementation of international legitimacy resolutions, and leads to ending the occupation and achieving a just and comprehensive peace in accordance with the two-state solution. We have expressed our readiness to assume our responsibilities in this regard, and we are full of hope that these efforts will lead to a permanent ceasefire, alleviating the suffering of our people, the withdrawal of the occupation forces, reconstruction, stopping settlement expansion and settler terrorism, releasing our seized funds, and stopping attacks on Islamic and Christian sanctities. We announced our support for the formation of the Palestinian committee to manage the Gaza Strip in this transitional phase, and we expressed our appreciation for the efforts of President Trump and the mediators Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, and the transition to implementing the second phase. We reiterate the importance of linking the institutions of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Gaza, and not creating administrative, legal and security systems that perpetuate duplication and division. In this context, we place before the entire world our political vision, which is based on the following foundations: – Adherence to the right of our people to self-determination, the right of return, and an independent, fully sovereign state on the borders of June 4, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living in security and peace with its neighbors. The Palestinian state is a democratic state in which equal citizenship is achieved for all. It believes in political pluralism, freedom of opinion, and the formation of parties. It adheres to the rule of law, good governance, human rights, integrity, and equality. One state, one system, one law, and one legal weapon. Direct general legislative and presidential elections are the basis of democratic governance, and are the only way to peaceful transfer of power, under the rule of law, transparency and accountability, and the empowerment of women and youth. These days, we are drafting a temporary constitution and a law for parties in preparation for the upcoming elections. Last year, we held elections for trade unions, federations, and the youth of the Fatah movement, and we are heading towards local elections in April, a conference for the Fatah movement in May, and the activation of the institutions of the Palestine Liberation Organization, all of which will take place this year. The Palestinian state is committed to international law, international humanitarian law, international legitimacy, and agreements and treaties signed with other countries, international organizations and institutions. – Popular peaceful resistance, in addition to political, diplomatic and legal action, is our strategic choice to end the occupation on the land of our state. We seek to reach our goals of freedom and independence through the steadfastness of our people and their survival in their homeland, and by continuing the political, diplomatic and legal work, through which we achieved recognition of the State of Palestine in the United Nations as an observer member in the year 2012, raised the flag of Palestine flying above the headquarters of the United Nations, and joined more than a hundred international organizations and treaties with full membership. We worked with brothers, friends and partners to build an international coalition and held an international peace conference to implement the two-state solution, which resulted in the New York Declaration, and the recognition of the State of Palestine by major countries, reaching 160 countries. In this context, we affirm that we will continue to make efforts with President Trump and the rest of the concerned partners, and we have hope that the year 2026 will witness progress in resolving the Palestinian issue, especially since we see positive signs from the American administration. Ladies and gentlemen, the great Palestinian people do not know despair. They are armed with faith and hope, and despite all the challenges they face, they continue to maintain their presence on the land of their state, which will be liberated from the brutal occupation, with their solid and unyielding will, God willing. They also preserve their history, identity and national memory wherever they are. Despite the catastrophe that befell our people due to the war of genocide and starvation, the deaths of more than 260,000 martyrs and wounded, and the destruction of more than 85% of the infrastructure and facilities in the Gaza Strip, we renew our determination to rebuild and build universities, schools, kindergartens, churches, mosques, and all the facilities of our state that were destroyed by the brutal occupation in the Gaza Strip, the other dear part of our state, with Jerusalem as its capital. The crown jewel, and we will rebuild what the occupation also destroyed in the camps, villages and cities of the West Bank. Ladies and gentlemen, I take this opportunity to express, in my name and on behalf of the Palestinian people, gratitude and appreciation to our Arab peoples and the peoples of the world, especially the students and youth, who stood by the Palestinian right against the injustice, tyranny, aggression and genocide to which our people were subjected, and organized demonstrations and protests that toured the various cities of the world in solidarity with the Palestinian people and in support of their just struggle for their right to freedom and independence. Finally, I would like to address Palestinian youth everywhere and say: Knowledge is your effective weapon, and knowledge will lead you to achieve your lofty and noble goals. I renew my thanks to the presidency of the Arab American University for this great appreciation, and I wish you further progress and development. –
