The Southern Journalists and Media Syndicate concluded the second meeting of its executive office on Sunday, January 28, 2024, which marks one year since the founding of the Syndicate, with the participation and attendance of 20 members, and 3 members absent with an excuse. The following statement was issued from the meeting:
The Executive Office of the Syndicate of Southern Journalists and Media Professionals held the second meeting held during the period 27 – 28 January 2024 AD with great success after reviewing and discussing the general annual report submitted by the President of the Syndicate of Southern Journalists and Media Professionals, Mr. Aidaroos Bahashwan, and listening to the reports submitted by the directors of the Syndicate’s departments, discussing them and the observations received regarding them, and enriching them to proceed with implementation. Plan it creatively during the year 2024 AD.
The meeting saluted the Executive Office for all the efforts and successes that were achieved during the past year, 2023 AD. The meeting also saluted the interaction of the union’s members and their understanding of their union since the first day of its founding, and the fulfillment of their responsibilities in completing the organizational construction and their involvement in the activities and events that it held at the center and the branch councils in the capital, Aden, and the southern governorates. Emphasizing the continued progress at steady steps to consolidate the foundations of their union and enable it to formulate a southern media discourse, defend the rights of its members, and confront all attempts to harm their entity that expresses the unity of the southern media and journalist ranks.
While the Syndicate points to these successes achieved in record time on the ground, it is determined to achieve the aspirations of its members in building foreign relations, obtaining membership in Arab and international press and media organizations and unions, and building bridges of partnership and cooperation with them.
On this occasion, the union and all its bodies extend the highest thanks, gratitude and appreciation to President Commander Aidaroos Qasim Al-Zubaidi, President of the Transitional Council, Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council, for his care and interest in southern journalists and media professionals and providing all aspects of care and attention.
The union also salutes the local authority in the capital, Aden, headed by Governor Ahmed Hamid Lamlas, for his support and efforts in rehabilitating the infrastructure of its headquarters. It also salutes the efforts of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund for the city of Aden, and salutes are extended to the leaders of the local authorities in the southern governorates for their support and care for the branch councils in establishing and conducting their activities.
At the conclusion of its work, the Executive Office meeting came out with the following decisions and recommendations: –
Declaring the union’s founding day on January 18 as a day for the southern press and media, and celebrating it annually in the union and all institutions and bodies concerned with work and journalistic and media activity throughout the geography of the south.
Approval of granting Dr. Abdullah Awad Al-Haw a certificate of appreciation from the union in recognition of his role in chairing the preparatory committee for the first conference of southern journalists and media professionals and establishing the union.
Approving the plans submitted by the directors of departments in the Executive Office and branch councils, and urging all departments and branch councils that have not submitted their plans to quickly submit them no later than the first half of next February.
Recommending the continuation of the union’s efforts by following up with the relevant authorities to obtain facilities for the union’s members in air transportation and health care, providing legal aid, and defending journalists and media professionals and their legitimate rights and freedom of opinion and expression.
Urging the relevant authorities in the local, governmental and judicial authorities to activate the general legal texts approved by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, and the local administration to oblige press, media and new media institutions to create employment contracts for their members to guarantee their legal and employment rights.
Printing the union’s statute, the code of honor, the union’s basic documents, and the final statement of the first conference of southern journalists and media professionals in a printed documentary book, and sending copies of it to all federations, unions, and press and media organizations, internally and externally.
Endeavor with the concerned authorities to complete the rehabilitation of the union building and build the meeting hall and circuit clerk.
Recommending to the government and local authority in the capital, Aden, and the southern governorates to allocate an annual budget to manage the activity of the union and its branches in all the southern governorates.
Preparing an integrated documentary file that includes the union’s statute, the code of honor, the union’s annual report, a copy of the license and the union’s legal declaration document, attached to the membership application for the Union of Arab Journalists, the Federation of International Journalists, and the rest of the international press and media unions and organizations in order to submit letters requesting membership in the corresponding press and media organizations. Concluding memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements with Arab and foreign unions.
Seek support from the supporting bodies to establish a financial fund for social solidarity for union employees.
Establishing a legal advisory committee affiliated with the union that contributes to defending the rights of union members and pleading on their behalf before legal and judicial bodies internally and externally.
Establishing an association for young journalists, media professionals, and athletes.
Establishing a club for cultural journalism affiliated with the union.
Establishment of the Southern Women’s League affiliated with the union.
Establishing the Association of Modern Media and Media Content Creators, affiliated with the union.
Recommending to the competent legal authorities in the union to prepare a draft law on the press, publications, and modern media in the south.
Recommendation regarding raising the professional and journalistic level of southern journalists and media professionals by providing specialized training courses for the union inside and outside the country.
Praise the judicial bodies, including the Press, Publications and Electronic Publishing Prosecution, for their legal handling of the cases and lawsuits submitted to them and their broadcasting with a level of responsibility.
Strengthening the relationship with southern press and media institutions and continuous communication in a way that serves to contribute to the development of journalistic and media work and raise the professional and media level of members of these institutions.
Strengthening the academic and media relationship with the Faculty of Mass Communication at the University of Aden and the Department of Mass Communication at Hadhramaut University in a way that contributes to developing the journalistic and media message and modern developments in this field.
Strengthening means of communication and joint work with media offices in the capital, Aden, and the capitals of the southern governorates.
Praise for the national role that the National Southern Media Authority has contributed to in supporting the southern media and the union from the beginnings of its founding until today.
Obliging the southern media discourse to do everything that might contribute to conveying an objective picture of the south and its just cause in restoring its civil and federal southern state.
Continuing to accept applications for membership in the union for all those who meet its membership conditions without discrimination or exclusion and in full transparency, and enhancing their presence in the journalistic and media scene.
Emphasizing the openness of the union and its leadership to all aspects of constructive criticism that leads to the development of union and professional journalistic and media work, and calling on its members to actively participate in performing its human rights and union role.
The Syndicate offers its sincere condolences and sympathy to the martyrs and loss of southern journalistic and media work.
Expressing full support and support for journalists and media professionals in Gaza and Palestine in their confrontation with the Zionist god that is trying to assassinate words and images, and the union conveys its sincere condolences and sympathy to the families and relatives of the Palestinian media martyrs.
The union calls on the various local, Arab and foreign media outlets to adhere to the honor and ethics of the profession, to stand by the right of the people of the South to restore their state, and to show the reality of the sacrifices and struggles of the people of the South, their leadership and their armed forces to support regional and international security and stability, and to confront terrorist organizations. It also calls on them not to be drawn into hostile campaigns. For the people of the South and to confront the deceptions and lies that attempt to undermine the status and reputation of the South and its leadership that seeks to establish peace and reject extremism, violence and racism.
Condemning the impersonation of southern names by visual and audio media channels, publications, and modern media, and using them to spread propaganda poisons against the South, as well as against Arab countries and the world.
Creating a shield and medal of honor for the Southern Journalists and Media Professionals Syndicate, and setting standards for the foundations of awarding the shield or medal to media figures or legal entities who had a major role in the journalistic and media career, defending freedoms of rights, or who had influential fingerprints in supporting the southern media. Work to make efforts to restore the reputation of the media personnel and journalists of the official Aden Channel and Radio, and the news agency, and to reactivate and reopen these important southern media outlets.

Working to benefit from the experiences and relationships of the supervisors of the establishment of branch councils in the governorates, by increasing the spiritual reference from them, and in pointing out the difficulties that the branches may face in their activities, or in healing the rift when any problems arise that they may face, in a way that contributes to developing the work of the branches and improving their performance or in Strengthening cooperation and partnership relations between branches and relevant authorities, each in their governorate.
Work to activate and re-issue Al-Sahafi magazine, which was published by the Organization of Democratic Journalists in the South before 1990, provided that a regulation for its work is prepared and issued.
It is necessary for journalists, media professionals, and content makers in the South to display a high sense of patriotism regarding not publishing any information that affects the security and stability of the South, especially security and military information, and to take into account the danger of this publication on the secrecy of the conduct of security investigations and the prosecution of criminals, as well as the safety of lives and the stability of the nation.
