Since its establishment, the Omani Social Society has been keen to consolidate its presence in the fields of community work and social research, but the past five years have represented a turning point in its journey. Driven by the increasing pace of research, awareness-raising and media programs and initiatives, and the expansion of national partnerships that have contributed to enhancing the association’s societal impact. The association seeks to serve its affiliated members by developing their professional capabilities and encouraging their participation in scientific activities, as well as urging them to contribute to community service. The Society also focuses on implementing social and voluntary programs and initiatives, and enhancing the concept of partnership in order to achieve integration with governmental and non-governmental institutions. During the period from 2021 to 2025, the Omani Social Society implemented various programs and initiatives that included training, research, awareness and media aspects, and succeeded in reaching broad segments of society in various governorates of the Sultanate within the system of partnerships with governmental and non-governmental agencies, and consolidating the position of social research as a main tool for understanding societal issues. Five years of growth. This stage witnessed gradual growth in the size of the programs and initiatives implemented by the association, whether in terms of the number of activities implemented, the expansion of the base of beneficiaries, or the diversity of institutional partnerships through the implementation of joint studies and research with different institutions. It also witnessed an increase in media presence through the publication of social articles in newspapers and magazines, and the growing publication of members’ research in peer-reviewed scientific journals, in addition to the expansion of the scope of awareness campaigns and training workshops, including It embodies a continuous development in the association’s performance and the enhancement of its societal impact. When knowledge turns into impact, scientific research has formed one of the fundamental pillars of the association’s programs over the past five years. By focusing on topics related to social upbringing, professional and societal reality, among these studies: a study of “The impact of the use of social media on the upbringing of children in Omani society (educational, social, psychological, health)”, a study of “The reality of civil society associations and enhancing their role in Omani society”, a study of “Social and cultural dimensions of job seekers in Omani society” and other studies, in addition to research presented in local and regional conferences that dealt with issues of digital citizenship, community institutions. Civilian, women, which enhances the association’s presence in scientific forums and highlights its contribution to research discussions related to societal issues. The association is also currently working on completing two additional studies as part of research aimed at addressing various issues affecting Omani society. The association was keen to design these initiatives in a way that suits the needs of society, and contributes to raising the level of awareness of societal issues and establishing a culture of volunteerism and community participation, in addition to highlighting the professional role of social workers in supporting individuals and families and transforming research knowledge into practical interventions with a direct impact in the field. In addition to the initiatives it implemented, and within its direction towards expanding… Through its institutional partnerships and strengthening of cooperation with various sectors, it responded to the invitations of a number of governmental, private and civil society institutions to participate in its activities and forums, during which it provided specialized interventions in various aspects, reflecting the effectiveness of its community presence and strengthening the network of institutional partnerships. From training to empowerment, the Omani Social Society has strengthened its focus on building professional capabilities during the past five years, through the implementation of more than (20) workshops and training programs in the fields of social research and professional practice for social workers. These programs aimed to develop the professional skills of researchers and social workers, use scientific research tools in practical practice, and deal with cases in school and community environments, thus contributing to raising the level of social services provided to society. The Society also led efforts to support job seekers among its members by providing training opportunities in various institutions and providing part-time job opportunities for some of them, which enhances their practical experience, increases the chances of their integration into the labor market in the future, and embodies the Society’s commitment towards empowering national competencies in the social field. The Society based the design of its training programs on keeping pace with the needs. Changing the social field, benefiting from national experiences, and providing applied content that links theory with practical reality, in a way that enhances the sustainability of the impact of training, and raises the quality of professional practice in social work. The program witnessed the implementation of a series of knowledge sessions presented via WhatsApp and the Zoom platform, and their topics varied between scientific studies, intellectual books, professional experiences, and applied workshops. The program included the presentation and discussion of (5) specialized scientific studies, the most prominent of which are: a “short-sighted ghosts” study on the psychological aspects of ignoring behavior in social relationships, a study on “consumer culture among Omani youth for a sample of students at Sultan Qaboos University,” in addition to a field study on the obstacles to professional intervention. The program also reviewed (3) qualitative professional experiences, which included: the experience of the distinguished social worker in the Gulf for the year 2022 AD, the experience of the social worker and therapeutic counselor in the addiction treatment center, and the role of the social worker in the Sultan Qaboos Center for Cancer Tumors, which reflects the diversity of areas of professional practice and the richness of the experiences offered. In the aspect of skill development, the program presented (6) workshops. The practical sessions, the most prominent of which are: the “Journalistic Article” workshop, a session on “Basics of Student Behavior Modification,” and the “How to Read a Research Paper” session?, in addition to analyzing the cultural contents of Omani society in the Omani novel “Najm the Sixteenth” by the novelist Saif Al-Rahbi, and the novel Asameena by the writer Hoda Hamad, and the “Theoretical Heritage and Derivation of Previous Studies for the Research Project” session. The program also included two discussion panels that dealt with intellectual topics. The attendance of the “Social Zoom” program was not limited to participants from within the Sultanate, but was extended to include participants from outside it. It reflects the wide resonance achieved by the program and its ability to attract participants from inside and outside the Sultanate via the “Zoom” platform, as well as access to the most prominent developments in the Arab social field through networking with academics and external institutions, which contributed to expanding the circle of benefiting from training programs and enhancing continuing education. Aisha Al-Kalbani, a member of the “Zoom Social” program team, indicates that the program is one of the renewable knowledge initiatives presented by the Omani Social Society, and is implemented at the rate of one lecture per month via the platform. This contributed to delivering influential social messages, highlighting priority societal issues, and consolidating community interaction with the association’s programs and activities. The association’s media discourse revolved around simplifying social concepts, presenting issues that affect the lives of individuals and families, and highlighting the role of social research in understanding and addressing societal challenges, as well as introducing volunteer initiatives and training programs, in a way that enhances community awareness and brings specialized knowledge closer to the general public. The association’s members participated in writing and publishing more than (60) journalistic articles that included social articles and investigations. And press polls, in addition to news related to the association’s various activities and programmes. The association’s members also attended (15) radio and television interviews, in which they discussed contemporary social issues and presented professional readings and analyzes that contributed to consolidating the position of social work in the media scene. In implementing its media mission, the association sought to diversify the channels of communication with the community through digital platforms and social media, in addition to media coverage of events, forums, and workshops, and the production of visual and introductory materials, in a way that enhances the spread and reach of social messages. To various segments of society, this growing media presence contributed to consolidating the image of the association as an active professional body in the social field and a partner in supporting responsible community discourse. It also contributed to expanding the circle of interaction with its programs and activities and enhancing its presence as an influential body in spreading social awareness and stimulating community participation. Institutional partnerships and expanding impact. During the years from 2021 to 2025, the Omani Social Society sought to intensify its efforts in building a wide network of institutional partnerships with the society. Governmental and private agencies and civil society institutions, with the aim of expanding the scope of their research, awareness and training programs and enhancing the integration of efforts in serving societal issues, in a way that contributes to reaching broader segments of society. These partnerships included implementing joint studies, organizing specialized training programs and launching community initiatives, in addition to cooperating in organizing forums and workshops to embody the association’s orientation towards participatory work and enhancing integration between different sectors. This orientation was reflected in enhancing the association’s presence in the societal reality, expanding the scope of its influence and consolidating its relationships with partner institutions, in a way that supports the continuation of the association’s efforts. The association also renews its commitment to supporting the pillar of social capital by expanding the base of volunteer work, building effective institutional partnerships, and implementing specific programs that contribute to strengthening the cohesion of the Omani fabric and consolidating the values of peace.
