The CEO of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work in an interview with “Lusail”: Copies Doha – Lusail The CEO of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work, Mr. Ahmed Al-Kuwari, affirmed the Foundation’s determination to increase awareness and service activities, and to open up to more parties inside and outside Qatar, to train and qualify the Foundation’s cadres and centers, by using the latest training plans and social work studies in a way that increases efficiency and creative ability, noting that the local partnerships that the Foundation recently sought to achieve aim To train and employ the centers’ employees, and to empower them economically. He added in an interview with Lusail that this will contribute to increasing the sector of beneficiaries of the Foundation’s services and its affiliated centres, stressing that the more targeted groups there are, the more open and accepting our society becomes. He pointed out that the mission of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work focuses on raising awareness about the issues of the most vulnerable groups in society and informing people of ways to deal with them, especially in critical times when most people suffer, especially since these groups’ suffering is double. He stated that the Foundation’s messages are directed in both Arabic and English, to address the world in order to present an authentic model, whose achievements are not limited to the local level only, but rather to the whole world, by continuing to celebrate the international days concerned with the social, humanitarian and voluntary sectors. The CEO of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work confirmed that the Foundation continued its activities and services to the most vulnerable groups without interruption during the Corona pandemic, but rather we created a package of flexible solutions to respond to the requirements of the target groups, adding that the most vulnerable groups in society suffer twice as much in times of crisis, so we defined People and ways to deal with them, especially in these critical times in which most people are suffering. ◗ The Foundation faced many challenges during the Covid-19 crisis, as happened to all institutions.. Did the Foundation succeed in continuing to provide its services during the past two years, especially in the wake of the pandemic? In fact, I would like to quote the words of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser during the crisis: Some see the outbreak of the Corona epidemic as a crisis, and I see it as a breakthrough in a crisis, which we were living without being aware of it. The Corona crisis has cast its shadow on many sectors and there is no doubt that it has harmed large sectors; It negatively affected human lives. But at the same time, it revealed the great potential of a number of other sectors and demonstrated its flexibility and robustness of its strategies in the face of force majeure such as epidemics and unexpected risks. Among these sectors is the social work sector in Qatar. Our work, which covers large social areas, such as supporting family stability, caring for orphans, protecting children and women, empowering youth, caring and rehabilitating people with disabilities, and caring for the elderly, has continued its activities and services without interruption. Rather, we have created a package of flexible solutions to respond to the requirements of the target groups. Technology benefited us greatly during the crisis, as we were able to continue our services. We are one of the parties whose awareness efforts are completely aligned with the state. We devoted our social platforms to spreading awareness and alerting people to ways of prevention, and we provided specialized content for groups with disabilities and the elderly, as they were among the groups most vulnerable to infection. We continued with our full capacity to provide services remotely without stopping. The Foundation’s fields and services and its centers include supporting family stability, caring for orphans, protecting children and women, empowering youth, caring and rehabilitating people with disabilities, and caring for the elderly. With this, another important specialization is added to us, which is supporting behavioral health and behavioral disorders in members of society. Joining a center with the size and strength of the Behavioral Health Support Center will enrich our journey in serving our community and raise the capacity of social work in Qatar. Al-Kuwari stressed that these integrated services contribute to better employment of expertise to serve the target groups and the general community and enhance the values of the institution aimed at strengthening the bonds of society, preserving its components and cohesion, including all its groups and responding to its various challenges. And to the text of the dialogue: How did you devote your platforms to spreading awareness… and what is the impact of this on the target groups? ◗ Our social platforms reflect the organization’s mission and are our main tool in reaching people, in addition to our various media efforts. Thanks to the efficiency of our communication management. During the past ten months alone, we have been able to reach more than 135,000 people via the Instagram platform and published about 100 awareness and interactive publications. Our mission focuses on raising awareness about the issues of the most vulnerable groups in society and informing people of ways to deal with them, especially in critical times when most people suffer. Emphasizing that these groups suffer double. In addition to the guidance of awareness specialists; For example, we worked to broadcast intensive messages to raise awareness of the problems faced by people with multiple disabilities during the pandemic and after the pandemic and the psychological damage resulting from prolonged isolation. ◗ Were the messages limited to raising awareness of the problems facing people with disabilities? Is it directed locally only? ◗ It is not limited to that only, as among our message that we broadcast to the masses is also to continue celebrating the international days concerned with the social, humanitarian and volunteer sectors to show our keeping pace with the world and solidarity with all workers in the social field from different countries, and many others. We are also keen to publish our messages on social media in Arabic and English to show our Qatari reality and its global orientation in order to present an authentic model whose achievements are not limited to the local level only, but the entire world. ◗ So what are the most prominent events that you have recently participated in globally? ◗ As for events, we participated in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development Goals; When we discussed at a high level the challenges, opportunities, and solutions facing people with disabilities in the post-Covid-19 world. The aim of the participation was to mobilize efforts and collaborate with international bodies, including UNICEF, in cooperation with the organization’s Shafallah Centre, to develop solutions that ensure the reintegration of people with disabilities after the Covid-19 crisis. We need collective efforts that contribute to achieving the sustainable development goals. What I draw attention to is that the consultative status of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work in the United Nations Economic and Social Council has served as a valuable means of advocacy, communication, and learning from others. We will continue our participation to increase our contribution to achieving the sustainable development goals. ◗ Locally, what are the most important partnerships that have been achieved? ◗ With regard to local partnerships, the Public Works Authority, Ashghal, and the Qatar Foundation for Social Work have signed a memorandum of understanding between them, aiming to train and employ members of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work centers such as the Shafallah Center for People with Disabilities, the Dreama Center for Orphans, and the Al-Noor Center for the Blind at the Public Works Authority, Ashghal. The signing of this memorandum comes from the Qatar Foundation for Social Work’s keenness to support and strengthen the centers to which it belongs, advance them, develop and activate their role in society, and develop strategies. The policies and programs that contribute to the advancement of these institutions to enable them to achieve the goals for which they were established. The signing of this memorandum also reflects the social role of the Public Works Authority and its keenness to confirm its social responsibility towards a number of important groups in society. The Qatar Foundation for Social Work and Qatar Charity also signed a memorandum of understanding; With the aim of opening areas of cooperation between them in the field of social and humanitarian work and community service. The memorandum of understanding regulates the support that Qatar Charity will provide to eligible groups through the organization’s social centers. In addition to joint cooperation in the field of exchanging data, information or reports for the target groups, which supports the objectives of this memorandum. Recently, we signed a joint cooperation memorandum with the Seashore Group with the aim of improving the situation of the groups benefiting from the Foundation’s Dreama Orphan Care Center, developing and activating its role in society, as well as providing continuous support to orphans. Under this memorandum, the Seashore Group will work to find suitable job opportunities for the categories benefiting from the center to ensure a decent living for them after they pass the legal age. It will also work to train candidates to work among them and qualify them professionally. In addition, the company will organize and implement programs and activities related to supporting the groups benefiting from the center. ◗ In your opinion, what do these agreements and partnerships reflect? ◗ I believe that these agreements and partnerships show the extent of our openness to everyone, whether local or international parties. We serve a large sector of the country and we have a goal of providing a successful international model for social work in a society that includes everyone, without exceptions or obstacles.◗ Recently, the Behavioral Health Support Center joined to be among the centers affiliated with the Foundation.. How do you evaluate this step? ◗ This step is a sign of the right path and a successful path, as it aims to mobilize efforts and gather expertise for civil society centers and institutions to work under the supervision of a pioneering institution the size of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work, which ensures refinement of expertise, further achievement, and maximum benefit from the accumulated experiences of all centers and institutions. I am confident that we will see the fruits of this step soon. The Behavioral Health Support Center is a distinguished center with rational leadership and brings together the most brilliant minds and expertise in the field of mental and behavioral health. Through its services, it has contributed to achieving more harmony in society and family cohesion and has contributed to raising awareness of many ideas and concepts that undermine the intellectual, psychological, and social foundations of our society. Also, with the addition of Daam, the number of centers affiliated with the Foundation and operating under direct supervision has increased to eight centers, so that the areas of our services become distinct and more integrated, as they include stability support. Family care, orphan care, child and women protection, youth empowerment, care and rehabilitation of people with disabilities, and care for the elderly. With this, another important specialization is added to us, which is supporting behavioral health and behavioral disorders among members of society. Joining a center with the size and strength of the Behavioral Health Support Center will enrich our journey in serving our community and increase the capacity of social work in Qatar. These integrated services contribute to better employment of expertise to serve the target groups and the general community and enhance the values of the institution aimed at strengthening the bonds of society, preserving its components and cohesion, including all its groups, and responding to its various challenges. ◗ What are your future plans and expectations? ◗ Our plan for the future is to increase our awareness and service activity and open up to more parties inside and outside Qatar to train our cadres and qualify them with the latest training plans and social work studies in a way that increases our efficiency and creative capabilities while increasing the sector of beneficiaries of the Foundation’s services and its affiliated centers. The more target groups there are, the more open and accepting our society becomes.
