Now, after more than half a year of assuming the duties of the Kingdom’s ambassador to Qatar.. What is the Saudi ambassador’s agenda to strengthen relations between the two countries during the coming period? I always strive to implement the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Highness the Trustworthy Crown Prince to work diligently and make an effort to strengthen fraternal relations between our two brotherly countries in all fields, increase opportunities for cooperation and launch them to broader horizons, and coordinate mutual visits at all levels and in all fields that contribute to building partnership, cooperation, consensus in visions, and overcoming any obstacles or difficulties in the course of fraternal and historical relations between the two brotherly countries. The land border port connects the State of Qatar by a single land line with its sister Kingdom. It is also a commercial port and a crossing for the peoples of the two countries. Is there a mechanism to activate this line so that it can return to operating at its previous levels? The popular and commercial land port that connects the two brotherly countries is open between the two sides, and thousands of travelers pass through it with ease. Our Qatari brothers receive all love, welcome and appreciation in their second country, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and there are no obstacles or difficulties at the land port. With regard to the commercial movement, we are working and discussing with the responsible brothers in Qatar to facilitate the procedures for the return of Saudi exports to Qatar, remove the obstacles it faces, ensure the smooth flow of commercial movement, and increase trade exchange between the two countries, because of its importance in serving the interests of the two brotherly peoples. Solving the Yemeni crisis: The Kingdom called for political dialogue to resolve the Yemeni crisis.. How far have these efforts reached to start the dialogue? The Kingdom adheres to dialogue and a peaceful solution to the Yemen crisis and supports the efforts of the UN envoy to Yemen in accordance with the three terms of reference, which are the Gulf Initiative, the Yemeni National Dialogue, and Security Council Resolution No. 2216. The Kingdom has put forward many initiatives that would create the conditions for finding a political solution in Yemen, the most recent of which was the Kingdom’s initiative to end the crisis in Yemen, which was announced by His Highness the Kingdom’s Foreign Minister on 3/22/2021, starting with a comprehensive ceasefire under UN supervision to reach an agreement. Politically, the Houthi militia, supported by Iran, rejected the initiative like other peaceful initiatives. It had also previously evaded implementing its obligations in previous dialogue meetings with the legitimate Yemeni government, including the Stockholm Agreement. It even increased its intransigence and rejection of peace and the political solution by continuing its aggressive approach and ignoring international and humanitarian law by launching ballistic missiles and drones at civilian facilities in the Kingdom, continuing acts of piracy in vital sea lanes, and obstructing relief and humanitarian efforts that… It is carried out by the Kingdom to serve the Yemeni people. To what extent did the Crown Prince’s vision contribute to supporting the Saudi economy? The vision of His Highness the Crown Prince has contributed to diversifying sources of income in the Kingdom, opening new fields to serve the Saudi economy, and generating thousands of job opportunities for the nation’s young men and women in various sectors, which is revealed by global competitiveness indicators and the Kingdom’s rise to advanced positions in a large number of international rankings. It is also expected that the rate of economic growth in the Kingdom for this year 2022 will exceed 7%, which confirms the strength and strength of the Saudi economy and its correct path towards achieving the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. There are many major projects that are currently being worked on in Saudi Arabia. Such as trains and modern cities like NEOM.. What will the impact of these projects be on the flow of foreign investments in the Kingdom? Yes, work is currently underway to implement major projects, including NEOM Future City, infrastructure projects, roads, public transportation, housing, tourism, entertainment, and cultural projects. All of these projects are considered attractive projects for local, regional, and international investment. The Public Investment Fund in the Kingdom plays an important investment role in such projects. We welcome Qatari investments in these projects, which strengthen economic, trade, and investment relations between the two brotherly countries. Hajj procedures: Many are wondering about the procedures to facilitate Hajj for Qataris.. How much is Qatar’s expected share of Hajj this year? The relevant authorities in the Kingdom will announce in a timely manner the arrangements and plans for this year’s Hajj and its precautionary measures in accordance with the developments and conditions of the Corona epidemic. How do you view trade exchange between the two countries, and what are the latest developments in this field? Trade exchange between the two countries is still below the desired level, and discussions are underway with the brotherly Qatari side to restore the flow of trade movement to its previous state and develop it between the two sides, and work to remove obstacles to Saudi exports to return to the Qatari market. We are optimistic, God willing, that the procedures that will ensure raising the level of trade exchange will be accelerated in a way that achieves the aspirations of the leadership of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples. At the end of last year, the Saudi-Qatari follow-up committee met for the ninth time. What role does this committee play? The follow-up committee emanating from the Al-Ula Declaration met for the tenth time at the end of last January in Doha, and most of the issues were agreed upon. The next meeting will be held in Riyadh at the end of this month to complete the discussion of the topics that are still under discussion. Investment opportunities: What are the joint investment opportunities and in what fields? Regarding investment opportunities, they are available in many fields. Holding trade and cultural exhibitions in the two countries is part of the proposals and initiatives aimed at developing areas of cooperation between the two sides. World Cup What about Qatar hosting the 2022 World Cup? Regarding the State of Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 World Cup, the Kingdom welcomes cooperation and coordination with the brothers in Qatar in everything that would make this world championship a success on the sisterly land of Qatar. How do you, as a diplomat, view the role played by Qatari diplomacy in resolving regional issues? As diplomats, we see and follow the activity of Qatari diplomacy and its continuous efforts to mediate conflict resolution and encourage peaceful solutions to conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy, including, for example, its successful humanitarian efforts in Afghanistan, which received praise and appreciation from countries around the world.
