The fifth session of the Mediterranean Water Forum kicked off on Monday in Tunisia, to discuss, over a period of 3 days, files related to the management of water systems and access to traditional water resources affected by climate change.
The forum, organized by the National Company for Water Exploitation and Distribution under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean and the Mediterranean Water Institute, will continue until February 7 in Tunis. This demonstration comes at a time when preparations are being made to organize the International Water Forum, scheduled to be held in the Indonesian city of Bali from May 18 to 24, 2024, noting that the Mediterranean Forum carries the slogan “Water for Common Welfare.”
Over the coming days, participants in the forum will discuss topics related to the availability of traditional water resources, both non-groundwater and groundwater, which have diminished as a result of climate change, and access to these resources, which is an urgent demand in most countries located within the Mediterranean Basin. The trend towards water desalination is of great importance within the water management policies and development plans drawn up by the Mediterranean countries, especially in the countries located in the south, knowing that these files are among the most prominent points raised by the forum.
The list of participants expected to attend this event includes the President of the Mediterranean Water Institute, Alain Missoniay, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean, Moataz Abadi, the President of the International Water Council, Loïc Fouchon, the Director-General of the Arab Center for Studies of Arid Zones and Drylands, Nasr al-Din al-Obaid, and officials. On other international and regional structures.
