It never occurred to me that I would write on the occasion of the end of a thousand days of aggression and resistance, catastrophe and heroism, while the war had not yet ended and the massacre was still continuing. The “flood” that began on the seventh of October, its chapters are still continuing, and the earthquake that it caused is still moving from one arena to another, and its aftershocks continue to strike deep within the region and the international community, creating revolutions in scene, image and narrative. It didn’t occur to me. I remember one meeting, with a senior official in Hamas shortly after the 7th of October, in which I asked him whether the “Al-Qassam Brigades” had prepared for a war that might extend for three months on the Gaza Strip. That day, his answer was full of confidence and optimism. Yes, we had prepared for a war that might last for six months, not just three… I returned that day to writing and declaring, motivated by this assessment, that “Hamas is not a tunnel to be “bombed” or a building to be “bombed.” The movement and resistance will end with it, and a new page of the book “The Israeli Era” will be opened. No one in this world has said, in any statement or insinuation, information or leak, that the flood and the aggression that followed it will extend in time for this long, and that steadfastness and resistance will reach all these heights, and that brutality and criminality will reach this lowest level of decadence and villainy… All of this was beyond all imagination, neither for those who launched the flood nor for anyone else, despite the fact that Some of the advocates of “retrospective wisdom,” and others from the school of “eternal fascination with Israeli superiority,” do not hesitate today to claim otherwise, and ascribe to themselves the credit of “alleged cognitive superiority,” or lavish their “servile realism,” the harsh robe of “rationality.” This, gentlemen, is Gaza, which has been sending, for a thousand and one days, its complex messages, and broadcasting live, two images, without which perception would not be correct. Examine and read them together: the image of legendary heroism and epic resistance against an enemy armed with weapons and hatred, and the image of the humanitarian catastrophe that befell the Gaza Strip and its people…the trembling and defeated people turn a blind eye to the first, and see only the second, not out of an excess of their humanity, but rather out of an excess of humiliation and subservience, while some of the proponents of the “revolutionary statement” only see the first, and turn a blind eye to the second, and do not hesitate to reduce the scene to an easy talk about A difficult situation, one revolutionary phrase, that sings the suffering of millions of people for a thousand and one days. It is Gaza, gentlemen, as it has become a “movement name” that summarizes the struggles of an entire people for more than a hundred years… and it has become a symbol for all the honorable and free people of the world, summarizing the goals of their legitimate struggle, against the extreme right, hateful racism, and hateful populism… As soon as you see a banner denouncing genocide and glorifying Gaza and its people, in any part of the world. All parts of this world, until they realize that Palestine has become the focus of a greater international-humanitarian movement, and that the struggle of its people has become a symbol of a global struggle that seeks liberation, justice, and fairness, and is fed up with the crimes of fascism and Zionism, before and after the flood. It was not expected of Gaza and its resistance to record a “decisive victory” over Israel. It is enough for it to have lifted the cause of its people from the abyss of ruin and marginalization, and raised it to the forefront. The world’s attention and its agendas…it is enough for it to have broken the barrier of fear and overcome the complex of the “invincible army”, and ended an “illusion” that Tel Aviv experienced, and which several Arab regimes and governments tried to establish as a “complex in our minds”…the invincible army was subjugated in Gaza, and tens of thousands of its officers and soldiers were transformed into psychological patients and sufferers of “post-traumatic stress syndrome”, and dozens of them were fired with “mercy” bullets at Heads and hearts that did not know mercy with the “gentiles.” It is enough that the seventh of October demonstrated the futility of the effects of the “intelligence arm,” which is not insurmountable in its mission and is not invincible by geography or “long distances,” after the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip accomplished the greatest operation of “strategic deception” by allied and cooperating intelligence services, some of which are among the most important in the world…. It is enough for the resistance of Gaza, that it conducted, with an amazing degree of efficiency, a psychological and media war against a powerful enemy, and the result was, A clear victory for the Palestinian story and narrative… It is enough that the flood caused Israel a chronic disability, and that the “Gaza Syndrome” will haunt the occupiers, generation after generation, and that Israel after it will never remain as it was before it. It is not possible to look at October 7th from a simple, excessively superficial and naive perspective, right or wrong, as the history of the Palestinians with an abolitionist occupation did not begin from that day. It was preceded by bloody pages of wars and uprisings. The confrontations, each wave of them, were more ferocious than the previous ones, and whoever insists on looking at this issue from this “publication” must remember what the situation of the Palestinians was like on October 6th, and what outcomes awaited their cause, from a sector subject to the worst types of unjust mass siege, to a bank whose land is being swallowed up and whose people are chased by the army and herds of settlers, to a Jerusalem subject to Israelization and creeping annexation, and sanctities desecrated by “barbaric feet.” Morning and evening, residents have become strangers in their city, the occupation has turned their neighborhoods into “ghettoes” fenced with bypass roads and checkpoints, and settlement outposts spread deep in their neighborhoods and alleys. It is enough to recall the question that made us stand bewildered and embarrassed, every time it was asked to us by a journalist or diplomat: Where did your Palestinian cause end, and is there a way out of this absence and marginalization, and did the Palestinians agree? For themselves, the reality of the situation of those who live under the bayonets of apartheid, siege, and permissibility?… It is enough to recall the images of the “normalization train” moving from one Arab station to another station, waiting for it to reach its “crown jewel,” and what the condition of the Palestinians would have been like, if the Abrahamic path had reached its desired conclusions, without resolving the Palestinian issue, and even without paving the way toward this solution. It is enough to recall how Netanyahu repeated his statement, boasting that he had succeeded In pushing Palestine, an issue and a people, to the margins of the book of the Middle East, after he convinced Washington and some of the Arab and regional capitals that Israel is a “reliable ally project,” that Iran is the real threat to the region, and that the time has come for the establishment of a Middle Eastern alliance, with Tel Aviv at its head, under American sponsorship, to confront the threat of Tehran and its “arms,” and that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is no longer more than a “small detail,” dwarfed by the major conflicts raging in the region. All of this is behind us Show us, this is what the majority of the Palestinian people say, despite the heavy prices they paid on the altar of steadfastness and confrontation of an aggression that has no legal, moral, or humanitarian sway… It is true that October 7 did not stop settlement in the West Bank, nor did the siege tighten on Gaza, nor save the sanctities from the abomination of violations. But it is also true that the flood succeeded in making the costs of these practices a disaster for the Israelis, in terms of their image, their narrative, and their status on the two arenas. Regionally and internationally, it transformed Israel from a “potential ally” of prominent Arab and Islamic countries into a “present threat.” More precisely, the successes of the flood, in the political and strategic sense, are far greater than its enormous human, economic, and social costs, and its major repercussions will become clearer in the medium and long term. In its quest to avenge its collapsed deterrent image, Israel found no choice but to target civilian structures and objects, to destroy the incubators of resistance. And pitting her against her, before she begins to discover that wars are not won by killing civilians and targeting children and women, and that the killers are losers even if they win, and that deterrence cannot be restored with these most degraded tools, and that generations of those determined to take revenge and avenge those who have passed away, will be the ones who will carry the banner and continue on the path, after it was confirmed to them that their enemy left her with no choice but the grave or exile, and that the saying of the good Palestinian is the dead Palestinian, no longer expresses her point of view. A minority of Israelis, but rather it is the voice of the vast majority of them. Right and wrong, profit and loss in the balance of profit and loss. The question is not whether the “flood” brought the Palestinians closer to the “two-state solution” or kept them away from it. The majority of them were aware that this was an “illusion of a solution” and not a “solution,” and that it was nothing more than a mirage or a wisp of smoke, the aim of which was to give Israel the time it needed, at the lowest cost, to “resolve the conflict” and destroy any chance of establishing a state. A woman and an independent Palestinian… The Palestinians realized this before October 7, and their conviction about it strengthened after it… The most important question from the perspective of profit and loss is: Will the Palestinians continue their struggle with their enemy, from a stronger position or from a weaker position? There is no doubt among many of them that there are no solutions of any kind on the foreseeable horizon, unless it comes in line with the outcomes of the Israeli solution, ignoring the minimum legitimate aspirations of the Palestinians, which is a “scenario” that we are feeling. Its indications are in the “humiliating adaptation” that the Authority is making in preparation for it, through the process of “re-engineering” the Palestinian system. On the balance of right and wrong, it can be said today that Hamas’s bets on the West Bank revolution and the Green Line Intifada were based on the “Saif al-Quds” moment, the uprising of the cities and towns that were subjected to the first occupations in 1948, and on the emergence of the Phalange, Alawiya and Al-Areen generation, the third millennium generation in the West Bank… This bet, as it turned out, failed, and it turned out to be a failure. Three reasons for this failure were not taken into consideration: (1) That there is a wishful dimension to this bet… (2) Lack of awareness of the scale and nature of the transformations that have occurred in the situation in the West Bank, since the “Fayyad” era and the Dayton-Blair plans, through the promotion of the generals of the “Holy Security Coordination” to the ranks of first leadership and decision-making centers in the Authority… (3) That Hamas did not adequately study what Israel learned from the lessons of the “Internal Intifada” and what it developed from A precautionary strategy to ensure that the experience would not be repeated. Hamas’s mistake in assessing the reactions of Tehran and its axis was only partial and relative, as the axis did not remain silent, but rather entered a bitter war of support alongside Gaza and its resistance, and paid for that costs that no one had imagined before, especially in Lebanon…. Perhaps the “succession of arenas” instead of “their coexistence and simultaneity” was a major mistake in the axis’ calculations, and a miscalculation that was mainly due to Tehran, but had it not been for “support.” Gaza, when the flood led to the wars of June 2025 and February 2026, which in turn will bear witness to the failure of Israel to restore deterrence, and the United States to impose hegemony, after Iran withstood and recovered, and entered with the rest of the parties of the axis in an unprecedented war, and ended with a memorandum of understandings, which everyone knows was in favor of Iran, and it would not have been so, if the American-Israeli alliance had succeeded in achieving its goals regarding There has been a long debate on this particular point, which continues to this day, but opinions, no matter how conflicting, converge on one point, which is that the wars of Washington and Tel Aviv against Tehran, Lebanon, and Yemen, some of which affected Iraq, did not begin at the moment of their outbreak, but rather were an organic extension of the flood and support, and there is much that has been said and can be said, about a defect in the tactics or a defect in the strategy of the axis that was neither us, nor Hamas, nor any of the observers And the other perpetrators, to predict that Israel’s crime, oppression, and brutality would reach these limits in targeting people, trees, and stones… because we simply could not imagine that the “distortion” in the performance of the Palestinian Authority and the organization had reached this extent, and that the “disgrace” that befell the official Arab and Islamic system had placed it at a low point, unable to provide a morsel of food, a pill of medicine, and a drink of water for the children, elderly, and women of Gaza, and we are not talking here about supporting its resistance. This is a thought that did not occur to us, not even in our rosy dreams. If some want to blame Hamas for “miscalculation and misjudgment,” they can do so, but it is shameful to blame the resistance for a position that ranges between impotence, complicity, and conspiracy, thus eliminating the remaining fig leaves with which this regime covers up its accumulated shame. As for the international community, the official one, and I mean in particular, the Western democracies, citizens of the human rights civilization, its complicity has risen to the level. The scandal, for which its leaders are paying the price at the ballot boxes in their countries these days, but our only consolation is that this West still has living peoples and vigilant societies that know right from wrong, and it has begun the journey of rewriting history and the narrative, and it is likely that it will continue on this path, which promises the Israelis nothing but more isolation, ostracism, and contempt. The Palestinians are aware of all these facts, and more of them, and the picture they have is 1,000 days after the encirclement war Cleansing and extermination have become more clear, and they express it in successive opinion polls, from multiple sources and with identical results. The majority of them, despite the great price of October 7, still maintain a positive opinion in support of the flood. The majority of them still believe in the weapons of the resistance, and the majority of them still express their support for Hamas and the resistance, compared to a small minority that still expresses its support for the authority, its choices, its practices, and its presidency. It is natural to see a disparity in the positions of the Palestinians, between inside and outside. West Bank and Gaza Strip, in times of intense fighting and times of relative calm, but most importantly, the Palestinians have not lost confidence in their national project, the legitimacy of their struggle, and the future of their cause. And most importantly, they are still clinging to their homeland, which they have no other homeland, and that they are able to separate the wheat from the wheat among their ranks. The conflict continues for decades and generations, and these are rounds that we circulate among the people, and the Palestinians after the flood, thanks to it, will resume their struggle that He never stopped, from a higher position, and with greater confidence, regardless of the forms of this struggle and regardless of the number of its struggle tools.
